My Quick Little Review: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

this is my little review of We Were Liars (2014) by E. Lockhart. This may contain heavy spoiler so if you haven't read the book yet, i encourage you to pick it up right now, read it, and tell me what you think!

i just finished this book yesterday, it was such a quick read. still figuring what happened. i was really eager to leave my thoughts about this book because i found some people don't enjoy this book as much as i do. i read enough review and theories about this book, until i came to this point, this book is not decisively bad, it is not just for everyone.

some people say they don't like how the book is written, but i do like it.
they don't like the plot, but i do like it.
they think the characters are all flat, well i don't think so.
they don't think some elements are necessary, well i don't think so.
they think this book has so many flaws, i think it's absolutely perfect.
well, i can see why they do think like that, people say it's overshadowing the twists, that they already know what happened so the twist don't wow them.
so my number one tips on how to read this book is... just read it. read it like you're reading someone's diary. don't think too much. let the plot flows, don't think why certain things are going like that. just read it, imagine it. and you'll be surprised.

my Indonesian version copy of We Were Liars
the story follows Cadence Sinclair Eastman, a white rich privileged teen who spends every summer on a private island owned by her grandfather. there, she reunited with the Liars, Johnny and Mirren who are her cousins, and Gat, who joins them every summer. things happened in their 15th summer, an accident, a breakdown, and she didn't know what happened. two years later, and she still struggling to remember all the things that happened, finding clues, and it follows her story how she remembered all that. to be honest, i don't see the twist coming because i just read it, without questioning some things may be clues. there may be a moment in which i think, "what ifs..." but no. that's impossible, besides, i'm only 10 pages away! but turns out, my what ifs do come true at the end.

i get that this book is not for everyone, some people may don't like the prose, writing style, character development but i do like it so much. i think the writing style is beautiful, like poetry. also maybe, i think it would make the book more "complete" if the writer explains more into why they are called the Liars. but i also love the fact that probably this book want me to think why. also i think, the whole viewpoint is so restricted only to Cadence's. and side note, i don't think Cadence character is supposed to be likable, though. well, i'm really sorry if i'm not the best reviewer haha just read this book, ok. it's a quick read, and potentially makes your head twist, not to mention the ugly cry!

also, the whole story reminds me so much of my favorite song Ghost by Sky Ferreira. it's perfect.
that's why i love this book so muccccch!

i'm not sure if i can do the whole review of this book because it's quite complex to write. i'd prefer further discussion though!
